Buyer's guide
How to choose
What credible reviewers say actually matters here: For 40-, 60-, 75-, or 100-watt incandescent lights, look for a bulb that outputs 450, 800, 1,100, or 1,600 lumens, respectively. For the latest updates to the list, I upgraded Wiz’s model to the color version, which is only about $2 more expensive and gives you millions of colors to choose from if you want. It’s the one issue that Philips Hue still struggles with for many of its bulbs, so consider the extra cost before you buy.
Common pitfalls
- Most smart lights don't need a hub, but this Bridge Pro enables extra tricks.
- Who shouldn’t buy it: People who want to avoid paying extra for a bridge device or people who don’t want a color floodlight.  ...
- I'm writing this because I didn't see anything on Reddit about these bulbs and I don't know where else to put this review.
- Be skeptical of products that appear only in affiliate-linked listicles or on the maker's own page — in this research those were excluded as unverified.
Marketing to ignore
- Ignore hype words like "perfect" — in this research they appeared only in affiliate/marketing sources, never in hands-on testing.
- Treat "#1 best", "rated by customers everywhere", and unsourced superlatives as marketing, not evidence.
- A high frequency of mentions is not evidence when the mentions are promotional — one hands-on test outweighs ten listicles.
